Next Meeting is March 13th 7PM at Western Brown High School in Mt Orab

On March 13, 2018, our guest speaker will be Dwight Wells. Dwight has several decades of beekeeping experience. He is an officer in his local bee club as well as a founding member of The Heartland Honey Bee Breeders Cooperative, which is currently collaborating with Purdue University in their queen bee breeding program.

Dwight is also active in varroa mite management, giving presentations in Ohio and throughout the midwest on this topic. He is a Regional Director with the Ohio State Beekeepers Association, and Vice President of the Buckeye Queen Producers.

Dwight’s program will be ‘‘Creating Nucs With Locally Adapted Honey Bees”. This program will cover how to properly create them; their importance in your bee yard, and how they may be maintained year round.

Brown County Needs a Bee Inspector

In the Sunday, February 4, 2018, edition of the Brown County Press, there is a classified ad seeking a bee inspector for Brown County. Those interested may submit an application with the Board of Brown County Commissioners, 800 Mt. Orab Pike, Suite 101, Georgetown, Ohio 45121.

November 14th Meeting

The Brown County Beekeepers will hold their last meeting of the year on November 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Western Brown High School. There will be a short business meeting which will include the election of officers for 2018. The program for November will be food and fellowship. Please bring some food to share and enjoy fellowship with your fellow beekeepers.

First we’d like to thank everybody who came out to see us at the Brown County Fair. We enjoyed meeting you and hope you found our booth both fun and educational. In addition we would also like to thank all our volunteers for coming out and assisting with running the booth. Your time and work is very much appreciated.

Now onto our next meeting which will feature guest speaker Colleen Penquite. Colleen is the founder of The Girls Beekeeping Club. The Girls Beekeeping Club is an informal organization, created 3 years ago and promotes women sharing their experience in the world of beekeeping. The 50 member organization meets quarterly and believes in the philosophy of women supporting women. Colleen will be sharing information about her club along with the practices she uses for natural beekeeping.
